HPE 5900AF series switches was announced in 2012.
Based on BCM56840 StrataXGS® Trident+.
Also was selling under H3C brand – H3C S5820V2. Looks similar, same software, just minor cli branding difference.
HP offers model with interesting ports layout:
FlexFabric 5900AF-48G-4XG-2QSFP+ (JG510A)
48 copper 10/100/1000 + 4 10G SFP+ and 2QSFP+ ports.
All other in this series – classical TOR switches for 2011-2012y:
FlexFabric 5900AF-48XG-4QSFP+ (JC772A) – 48 SFP+ и 4QSFP+
FlexFabric 5900AF-48XGT-4QSFP+ (JG336A) – 48 медных 10G и 4QSFP+

Here you need to pay attention to the dimensions – all switches, except for the JH337A, have a depth of 65.99 cm.
So rack need be at least 800cm depth, and 1000cm preferred.
The switches supports MPLS and VPLS (tested on 5900AF-5920AF_7.10.R2432P06 software).
It also supports Intelligent Resilient Fabric (IRF), a stacking/virtual chassis feature.
Supports Control-Plane protection policy.
No licenses required.
